General Frequently Asked Quesitons

Do I have to attend Orientation?

We believe that Orientation is essential in assisting new students with their transition to college and to UNO. Because of this, all freshmen and freshman transfers with 24 or fewer college credit courses are required to participate in New Student Orientation.

What if I'm a transfer student?

Transfer students with more than 24 transferable hours should plan to attend a 2-hour Orientation session designed for transfer students.

As a transfer student you may assume that programs and services at UNO are similar to those provided at your previous school. In reality, every university is different and our programming is designed to help you make a successful transition to UNO. Orientation provides an opportunity to meet with other new students, become familiar with campus and available services and resources, meet in a small group with Orientation leaders, and learn about student life at UNO.

When should I register for an Orientation date?

Sign up and attend an Orientation as soon as possible. Our sessions fill up quickly so don’t delay in registering. All new students at UNO have an Orientation hold on their records, preventing them from registering for classes before attending Orientation.

Log in to Mavlink after March 28 to sign up for an Orientation session. You will need your NU ID and password. Your NU ID was included in your admissions paperwork and your password was selected by you when you completed your application online.

Do I have to stay for the whole program?

Yes, it is required that you stay for the entire program. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late or need to leave early, you will be asked to reschedule.

Should my parents come with me to Orientation?

Orientation is designed for students only. Parents or friends who come with you will be asked to return after the conclusion of the program.

Parents and family members will have opportunities during the summer to attend an Orientation session designed for them. The cost to attend Parents Orientation is $30 per person and the fee is non-refundable. For more information, please select the "Parents/Family members" link at the top of this page.

Where can I find Lodging near UNO?

Discounted lodging is available through Aksarben Marriott or Staybridge Suites both located near UNO. You must indicate that you are attending UNO orientation.
